Discover Your Spiritual Gifts: Who Are You Really?

Whether you’ve followed Jesus your whole life or you’re just starting to wonder if there’s more to you than you’ve been told — this is for you.

I spent a lifetime supporting, helping and guiding people, from the age of 17. From the age of 25 onwards, I pursued a career in the Human Resources field, turning to natural health and wellness in 2012, after God dramatically changed the direction of my life. Only at the time, I wasn’t clear on who this was. Throughout that time, my main focus had been to train, assess and equip people to determine their ‘fit’ for the work they were applying for, and coach, manage and guide those outcomes. Establishing what they thought, who they were, understand how they were wired, and place them where they belonged utilising all manner of psychometric profiles (some were lame, some were excellent and some required deep and robust intuitive interpretation). I built careers, developed leaders, and profiled hundreds of people across insurance, banking, retail, logistics, services, trades and hospitality. I took it upon myself through until my mid-forties to coach hiring leaders to think differently, and understand what they had in front of them in what was an ever-present ‘dry market’ that was lacking in ‘skills’ (it wasn’t, that was just perception). I took the role seriously, as part of a portfolio responsible to fill about 40–50 professional roles every week, and to help them shape the desired corporate culture they were responsible for, in the various sectors I worked in.

Then God made me redundant, and we pivoted. He’s done this a few times. So if you are feeling called to ‘find out what my Gifts are’, I can only imagine what has occurred to this point in your life. It’s never an accident, and it’s always God prodding you to think differently about yourself.

After a vision of helping literally ‘thousands of women’ which surprised me, as I tried to explain to that vision that it was wrong, and it was not a driver for me. But it was very clear that I would not be doing what I was doing (coaching hiring leaders) much longer. The vision came to pass, and I helped literally many thousands if not hundreds of thousands in my field of natural health and wellness, along with coaching and mentoring, which I did for 8 years straight.

In 2020, came a massive dismantling, greater than before. I came to know the God of the Bible in a string of fascinating events from New Age to Jesus. Having hit the heady heights of global success and reaching the top 2% in my industry with my husband, over the next 3 years, I lost who I thought I was (identity crisis), I lost most of my business (built as an Empire, not a Kingdom business, in any way), I lost my capacity to teach and lead (lockdowns), and wasn’t able to travel which was a huge part of what I did. Through this same period, I had to simultaneously move, downsizing a 5 bedroom home to a 2 bedroom apartment, became a reluctant empty-nester. Wow — after two marriages, and decent periods as a single Mum, and a remarriage, no one talks about the empty-nester stage which was a shock! Finally, I lost my 23 year old son to estrangement in 2022. I have not met his children, my grandchildren. My friend, I have been through some valleys, and I sure knew I was alive. Thank God for God I say. But I will say, that if you are experiencing dramatic shifts, I get it. I have learned not to dread the call when I can feel God moving in my life, it’s happened quite a bit. And I have learned to respond to the invitation instead of recoiling in terror, though I totally get the reflex! LOL

When I took this assessment myself, I discovered that my primary gifts are Discernment, Faith, and Knowledge. That explained everything — why I see what others miss, why I trust God when there’s no evidence, and why I can’t stop studying until I find the connection. It also explained why I’d spent 30 years in HR without knowing God was training me for this.

Over the past 6 months, each time I enter Church, I hear ‘Help my People Discover their Gifts and their Purpose’ — this wasn’t just a vain imagining. It was repeated, as I know God has been showing me what is going on in the world right now, amongst His people, to help the church strengthen. Globally there could not be a more appropriate time to apply this than right now. The timing was not lost on me. There is no better time for the adversary to have his way, than when the church is weak, and don’t know who they are in Christ. We repeatedly see these themes in Scripture.

So you can imagine, me hearing this repeatedly in church ‘Help them to Know Who They Are’ was initially met with ‘wait, me? what?’ but then I had cause to reflect on my entire career. I realised this is not only a relatively well developed muscle for me, but I’ve been an apprentice to lift the body of Christ even when I was not aware His Hand was over all of it. I was 18 years in a corporate setting, and God was calling me to draw upon my own knowledge, skills, and to use my gifts, and experience, for the good of the body of Christ. This is a deep honour for me. No longer recruiting for the world’s needs, I’m helping the saints, I’m lifting the Body of Christ, I’m winning souls for Christ, and helping people understand who they truly are in the light of that revelation.

But know this: while nothing replaces the Word of God, or time in the church, and in community, it is powerful to understand who we are becoming, and what God is forming in us. If we are unclear on who we are and how we are designed, it’s not really something a personality test, a quiz, or a Freudian self-help book, a Human Design or Enneagram test (which is occult, btw) is going to help you with. It’s not found in the world. It’s found within, and the ability to ‘see’ what God has done in us is deeply empowering and the catalyst for great change in the world.

What Are Spiritual Gifts?

Spiritual gifts aren’t a feel-good laundry list of cool things to do. They are the fundamental, raw abilities God placed in you before you were formed — before the world was made. He has told us, He knows every hair on our head, and we are beautifully and wonderfully made. How on Earth can we build up the body without firstly knowing and getting a bit of insight into how God sees us. And the benefits of this are everlasting: for the building up of the Church and the good of humanity.

Gifts — whether spiritual, natural talents, or the physical presence of God — are fundamentally designed to serve a purpose beyond the individual, aimed at building community, expressing love, and fulfilling a higher calling. They were designed and intended to be used for the benefit of others, serving as a form of grace or appreciation that strengthens relationships. And they are articulated throughout all of Scripture:

The Spiritual Gifts are referenced throughout Scripture, from Romans 12 to 1 Corinthians 12 to Ephesians 4. They are very real, they are active today, and they are operating in you whether you know it or not. They are a powerful tool to leverage our own capability and walk with Him in the Kingdom, regardless of where you sit theologically.

Key Aspects of Gifts and Purpose:

  • Service and Stewardship: Spiritual gifts are seen as stewardship of God’s grace, not for personal glory, but to serve others and encourage the community around us, in the church or not.
  • Building Unity: The purpose of gifts is to bring people together, fostering unity and strengthening relationships, and building up the Body of Christ.
  • Purpose of Talents: Natural talents and gifts are meant to be identified and used for the greater good, rather than being focused on personal weaknesses or exploiting others.
  • Gratification: Giving and receiving gifts is an act that promotes joy and, in religious contexts, strengthens one’s connection with the Divine. We all know how God loves gratitude!
  • Impact: They are used to bring God’s grace into the lives of others, edifying and encouraging them. It helps us model who God called us to be, and by working from our strengths and not those areas that are not our natural calling, it removes friction and instils peace in our lives that literally surpasses all understanding.

Most people have no idea what their gifts are. They know they should apply themselves in the Church, but they don’t know how. They feel like they are acting haphazardly, or blindly, and this is made worse if they have a false belief that tells them they can’t see or sense God in their lives. This is a block that the enemy will exploit readily: while you’re not being who God intended you to be, the enemy has no trouble dismantling that version of you. This is not intended to scare you, it is intended to ignite a sense of urgency though, because we do not know the hour or day God returns to be with His Bride!

And of course, a word of caution — these gifts are not intended to puff anyone up with spiritual pride, for personal aggrandisement or vain imaginings. I can say that once applied, and utilised, and knowing yourself through these gifts, you will indeed have a far greater sense of what is possible than you did without that knowledge, and trust that Holy Spirit will show you the way forward, as you garner the courage to truly walk this out, in a shared sense of purpose.

Why This Assessment is Different

There are plenty of spiritual gifts quizzes online — tonnes of them. Most of them are lukewarm, at best. They ask you to rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 5 across a list of statements. The problem with this approach is that busy, preoccupied souls and even earnest, faith-filled people tend to rate everything high — and the results are flattened. You score well on everything and walk away no clearer than when you started. No real direction. No real sense of purpose, other than scratching a strange, spiritual itch. Did anyone mention lukewarm?

This assessment is a tool that works differently. I’ve developed it to bring up high quality results, in a tried and proven model called a forced-choice model — the same approach used in professional psychometric profiling assessments to discern the nuanced aspects of those gifts in comparison to each other. For each question, you’ll see two statements. Both are true. Both describe genuine spiritual gifts. You will land with the one that is most like you, in most situations.

That’s harder. Which is the point. When you can’t say yes to everything, your real wiring will show up in a simple Socratic technique. Our true priorities surface. The gifts God actually built you to lead with become clear — not because you rated yourself highly, but because you chose them when it counted. You lean on those under pressure.

80 questions. 20 gifts. About 20 minutes of honest reflection. At the end, you’ll see your full spiritual gifts profile — all 20 gifts, ranked.

Who Is This For?

You might be a believer who’s been walking with Jesus for decades and never been able to articulate what you carry. You might be new in your faith and trying to understand why everything feels different now. You might be a woman who’s spent years in the wellness space and is starting to sense that the plants, the healing, the intuition you’ve been drawn to — it was never New Age. It was always God. You might be a priest, a chaplain, a pastor, looking for a tool with depth and accuracy. You might be an influencer having undergone radical change. You might be sitting on your couch at 11pm, searching for something you can’t quite name.

This is for you.
